Dear Mister Language Person: I am curious about the expression, Part of this complete breakfast. The way it comes up is, my 5-year-old will be watching TV cartoon shows in the morning, and they'll show a commercial for a children's compressed breakfast compound such as Froot Loops or Lucky Charms, and they always show it sitting on a table next to some actual food such as eggs, and the announcer always says: Part of this complete breakfast. Don't that really mean, Adjacent to this complete breakfast, or On the same table as this complete breakfast? And couldn't they make essentially the same claim if, instead of Froot Loops, they put a can of shaving cream there, or a dead bat?
Answer: Yes.

My reaction to those "part of a complete breakfast" breakfast shots was "how on earth does someone eat cereal, eggs _and_ toast for breakfast?!" Mostly because it was one or the other for us.

AND a glass of juice AND a glass of milk. If I'd ever tried to have juice and milk at breakfast, my mother would've given me grief for hours.

I don't think I could have both. It has to be either or. And even then its usually milk. OJ could be with eggs and etc but not with cereal. It'd be a sugar heart attack.

I'm okay with either one, but not in the same meal. And usually cranberry instead of orange juice - OJ just... something about it doesn't sit well with me. Weird taste in my mouth.

Also I really need to steal that icon from you.

I like OJ sparingly. My main drinks are water and milk.

heh, you can has if you want. I got it from someone else.

As a kid, milk and assorted juices. As an adult, iced tea and water, and the occasional Gatorade.

Hooray! *ganks* I needed a icon to warn everyone that I'd eaten half a box of cupcakes...

For me as a kid it was anything with sugar in it.

Yay! we'll be icon twins.

Lol, I agree. It's like 'okay, I guess I could do this if I haven't eaten for three days. Otherwise...not gonna happen.'
