1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next 4-7 sentences on your LJ along with these instructions.
5. Don't you dare dig for that "cool" or "intellectual" book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest (unless it's too troublesome to reach and is really heavy. Then go back to step 1).

[ Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane]
In that final year of her life she had grown inexplicably skittish, prone to insomnia that left her terror-filled and addled. She'd tickled him after the alarm had gone off, then suggested they close the shutters and block out the day, never leave the bed. When she hugged him she held on too tightly and for too long, and Teddy could feel the bones in her arms crush into his neck.

As he took his shower, she came to him, but he was too rushed, already late, and as had so often been the case in these days, hungover. His head simultaneously filled with spikes. Her body like sandpaper when she pressed it against his. The water from the shower as hard as BBs.

Cancer

by Uncle Rob

I think you're ready to stand up and reclaim your power from the soul-sucking influences that have been swindling you. But you don't have to turn this showdown into a melodramatic epic that brings down the house or blows up the world. In fact, I think it's better if you stay low-key as you transform the dynamics that have been grinding you down. The adjustments may be nowhere near as major as you imagine. Why? Because most of what you need to do is make shifts in your own attitude. The necessary changes in outer circumstances will arise naturally once you've done that.
